I discovered Cheezehound while stalking the Vegan Shop-Up on Instagram, this all vegan pop-up market in NYC I wrote a post about here. Right now Cheezehound seems to only be available in the New York area, based up in the Catskill Mountains, they make delicious vegan cheeses and pate. The owner, Lori Robin, was super friendly and invited me to pop by the next shop-up while I was in New York to try the cheeses.
Unfortunately the lighting at the event was quite dark, so my pictures aren’t amazing but I went home with an amazing cheese called Grey Day Blue, which had this perfect sharpness I’m always after, albeit driving from the shop-up to my friend’s in the car during the hot summer was a bit complicated since that specific cheese had a decent amount of coconut oil in it.
Most of the cheeses are more solid than the one I chose though and I brought a non-vegan friend with me to the event who wholeheartedly approved. They have a ton of unique flavors and the fresh mozzarella is spot on. If you are in NYC or nearby, you definitely need to get some of this!
The cheeses are a bit pricy, $19.75 each, but they are a bit bigger than most of the artisan vegan cheeses you get at the shop. I will for sure be splurging on at least one on all my future NYC visits!
Base: macadamia, cashew and/or hemp milk depending on the specific variety
Consistency: most very solid and sliceable, some slightly softer
Varieties: Too many to list! I spotted fresh mozzarella, many flavors of the solid macadamia milk based cheeses, and the grey day blue below
Other points: handcrafted lactose-free non-dairy and vegan

This review won’t be as thorough due to the spotty lighting, but here’s some pictures I managed to grab:
Cute packaging for the Grey Day Blue
Owner Lori and her assistant manning the stand at the Vegan Shop-Up
Fresh Mozzarella, unfortunately the sample was the only one left by the time we got there! Get there early!
Dark picture of the spread, so good.
Grey Day Blue Ingredients: Organic Cashews, Culture, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Chickpeas, Organic Rice Koji, Organic Nutritional Yeast, Organic Spices, Spirulina, Sea Salt
ooh yum!
Thanks for the link 😉 Looks yummy. I’ve not been in to vegan cheeses that much, but the ingredients in this one aren’t that scary so maybe it’s something I should give a try.
