Vegan MoFo Post #19!

Late post today as I’ve been on the road! I lied, cookbook post is upcoming soon but not today! Today I’m talking about Atlanta, which I just left this morning! Another city I barely scratched the surface in, but is up there in my top cities aesthetically and based on the few things I did visit. I am really getting into southern cooking and the fact that there are always vegan biscuits available and collards, oh the collard greens! I still have to try grits though!

Cafe Sunflower Atlanta Nachos | Vegan Nom NomsFirst up, Cafe Sunflower! A good friend in Berlin from Atlanta recommended this place to me, so I went to check it out. It’s moderately priced (salads are $10 and entree $17-18), but delicious. Would also be a good date spot. I wanted to eat everything on the menu, but they had nachos and nachos are my ultimate weakness so I got some of those. I was going to be a fit and go to yoga first, but I want to the wrong address and mixed it, but oh well. Anyway, these are the Supreme Nachos with vegan chili, guac, and veggies with melted Daiya cheese. Yum! Cafe Sunflower Atlanta Caesar Salad| Vegan Nom NomsI love me a good vegan Caesar Salad so I went with the Caesar Salad with Mushroom Anchovies as my main course. Cafe Sunflower Atlanta Peanut Butter Mousse Cake | Vegan Nom Noms Their dessert menu is just a giant platter of cakes. My stand-by is always the chocolate peanut butter combination, but I was debating between the German chocolate cake (am I feeling homesick?) and this. Luckily the waiter helped me out and then brought over a big slab of this Peanut Butter Mousse Chocolate Cake. It was divine. It even had a thin later of caramel between the mousse and the cake. Awesome texture, not too sweet, but very flavorful. Whole Foods Vegan Pizza | Vegan Nom NomsNot quite as exciting, but still delish and a cheap dinner at $3.50, I swung by Whole Foods once night and found this vegan pizza slice they heated up in the brick oven for me. Clearly I started eating it before taking a picture, oops. A good dinner as a break from the constant eating out and spending money. Soul Vegetarian Atlanta | Vegan Nom Noms I found Soul Vegetarian No. 2 on foursquare and decided to check it out, since I definitely won’t be able to get this kind of food back in Germany. The waiter was super friendly and the menu wasn’t too huge, which I like. I went for the Divine Dinner for $15 and chose the Vegan Chicken Fried Steak with Gravy with Collards and Mac and Cheese as the two included sides. It also came with some cornbread. The mac and cheese was probably one of the best I’ve had that I didn’t make myself (my most asked for mac and cheese recipe here)! Collards were good, but the best I’ve had were still at Detroit Vegan Soul in Detroit. Cornbread was tasty and the chicken fried steak and gravy were deliciouuusss! The Divine Dinner also came with a little salad. The dressing was pure noochy deliciousness and I like that there were sprouts!Dulce Vegan Bakery and Cafe Atlanta | Vegan Nom NomsI had exhausted my travel food stash of breakfast foods this morning so decided to pop by Dulce Vegan Bakery and Cafe. Their Breakfast Sandwich was possibly the best I’ve ever had. The biscuit was warm, flavorful and a bit crumbly in that good biscuit way, I got it with chipotle aioli mayo which added a nice hint of spiciness and then there was a tofu egg, that seemed like it was made and then fried in patties, it was a really great texture, and the tempeh bacon. Oh my it was good. I also got this Cinnamon Bun and had them zap it in the microwave for 10 seconds so it was warm and gooey. Their house coffee was also flavorful and good, not bitter, just right. Definitely go here! They have lots of seats and sandwiches after 11am!

My fly-by three day trip in Atlanta! I totally needed more time, but alas!

Tomorrow check back for some of my favorite MoFo posts and themes! Tomorrow I’ll have reached my 20 posts, but don’t worry, more to come including the aforementioned cookbook round-up, a post on Philly, more about some vegan American cheeses and products I’ve found and then we’re back in Europe!
